McKinney Community Development Corporation

Our Relationship with MCDC

Geordon’s foundation, Strikes Against Cancer, annually applies for Grants to promote the City of McKinney.  Since we have received  Grants from MCDC our tournament has grown 158% with teams coming from greater distances, booking hotels earlier in advance, and bring significant revenue to our community.

The McKinney Community Development Corporation is an organization with a mission to promote and preserve the quality of life in McKinney. It was established in 1996 when McKinney voters approved a one-half cent sales tax to be used to enhance McKinney’s aesthetic, cultural and leisure amenities.

McKinney, one of the fastest-growing cities in America, is known for its historic downtown, rolling hills, tree-lined neighborhoods, beautiful parks, award-winning schools, diversified economy and unique neighborhoods.

MCDC is guided by a volunteer board of seven McKinney residents appointed by the City Council. The board, along with its Executive Director, is tasked with identifying potential quality of life projects, reviewing grant funding requests and serving as responsible stewards of approximately $8 million tax payer dollars generated annually through the half-cent sales tax. (FY 2012 budget)

We have funded projects for public parks and open space improvements; public recreational, sports and community facilities; entertainment, tourist and convention facilities; economic development and the creation of jobs; and affordable housing.

Welcome to the City of McKinney and Historic Downtown!

Located just 30 miles north of Dallas, McKinney offers visitors the perfect getaway destination, with its tree-lined streets, historic downtown and tight-knit community giving this fast-growing city a friendly, small-town feel despite the city’s population which topped 155,000 in January 2015. Home to one of the state’s largest historic districts, McKinney’s charm and comfortable pace is quite different from the metroplex’s urban sprawl, prompting Money Magazine to select McKinney as is #1 Best Place to Live in America in 2014 (up from the #2 spot in 2012, #5 in 2010 and #14 in 2008).

Discover McKinney and find out why we truly are unique by nature!
